Ross was employed by the company from 14th March 2004 until December 23rd 2011 as the company’s Finance Manager. During this time he was both a popular and effective member of staff. His attendance record at work was excellent. He developed the role through being thoroughly professional in his approach to his duties both in terms of the professional standards he applied to his work and his interaction with other members of staff. The qualities he brought to the business were appreciated by both Nat West Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Ross played a key part in helping Hildon through some very difficult trading circumstances and when the finance department assumed responsibility for IT, Ross was allowed to attend Kingston University and Solent Southampton University where he excelled on both courses gaining a distinction at MSc level. It is with regret that market circumstances did not allow this investment in knowledge to be realised as resources were urgently required elsewhere.
 

The restructuring of the business resulted in Ross’s role being made redundant. We send Ross our best wishes and wish him every success for the future.

I have worked with Ross Ablott for the past nine years or more. He was the Financial Controller for a family company in mechanical and electrical engineering whilst I fulfilled a non-executive role for the family.

I was always impressed by the dedication Ross showed throughout his time in the business and the hard work he exhibited. Initially he managed a team of four, which grew to seven, leading by example.

During his nine years with the company the turnover increased fourfold to £50 million, and he ensured that the management information required by the Board was available on time and accurate. He used Excel and other resources to supply the information without a substantial increase in his team numbers or the opportunity to improve technology.

 

Ross has good spreadsheet skills and excellent computer expertise. His concentration upon accuracy was always exemplary.
 

His contribution towards improvements in financial reporting was significant including sector analysis, funds flow statements and balance sheet stewardship which did not exist prior to his arrival.
 

In the course of his time with us he took responsibility for the company insurances, risk management and day to day administration of the bank accounts. He conducted numerous studies as required for the management team. He prepared detailed budgets for reporting, supervised Auto Enrolment and RTI, making tax digital and the laid the foundations for domestic reverse charge.
 

He had to manage many detailed changes in reporting and ensured supply chain payments were made on time and customer risk profiles were professionally managed. His relationships with auditors and other outside parties were excellent as evidenced by the lack of accounting adjustments and the comparatively low audit fee received by the company following completion of the annual audit.
 

Ross always attended financial review meetings (Projects) to ensure that he always had his finger on the pulse of the business, something that always added value to his offering.
 

I have no hesitation in recommending Ross. However this reference is without commitment and it should be ensured that his skills and experience are correct for any appointment which may be made.
